Tales From An Urban Blogger
Posted by Necole Bitchie on Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

My name is Necole Bitchie and I am a ProBlogger. People sort’ve laugh when I tell them what I do for a living and I even get the “I don’t consider blogging a real job” from time to time so it was very important to me to have the opportunity to give my testimonial on my experience as a “blogger”.
Just a year ago, I had no idea what the term Problogger met nor did I know what a blog was. It wasn’t until I played around with my own site on blogger, and then wrote for a popular online blog that I realized that I could turn a hobby into a career and make a substantial income doing so. I first made my income from blog consulting, marketing and ghost writing for other sites and then in December 2007 I started my own blog NecoleBitchie.com.
I initially started Necole Bitchie as a celebrity blog but also wanted to build a platform where I could write personal blogs pertaining to my life and experiences. At the time I wasn’t very focused on making money but more so on building a brand. About a month later, I decided to experiment with different methods of advertising. I will share my different methods of income in another post on this site at a later date but I will say that it is a combination of advertising, ghostwriting on other blogs, consulting and blog marketing.
I get tons of emails asking questions like “How do you make money from your site” to “How do you market your site” and I felt it was very necessary to open a platform where I can answer these questions collectively and share the wealth of information with hundreds of aspiring and current bloggers who are looking to grow online. The one concern that I hear time and time again is that Urban Bloggers do not stick together and I believe that TheUrbanBlogger.com will build a platform needed to bring urban bloggers together to share the wealth of knowledge.
I will say that the black blogesphere has embraced me with open arms and I am so thankful for that. I have been blessed to have my blog linked by over 100 blogs in this short time and the support has been tremendous. With that being said, I have to stress that building relationships around the blogesphere is vital to your success. You hear the stories time and time again of blogs stealing from other blogs without crediting the source and that will ruin your relationships.
In the next few months I will share daily tips on social networking, marketing, advertising and relationship building. This site will also feature news and resources pertaining to bloggers and it’s impact on politics, the music industry and every day life along with testimonials from other successful urban bloggers.

You got me reading this blog like it’s story time. legs crossed and all…Keep it up!!
I’ve been making money online in some capacity for the better part of 5 years, so this is definitely a “real job”…even if I do do it in my pajamas.
I’m hoping I can learn more from all of you and we can all share some knowledge to get ahead.
Great idea, signed up on your list. I’m black and I’ve been making a lot of money online from affiliate marketing for a couple of years now. The one thing that disturbs me however is that there are not that many minorities into affiliate marketing, and there is a sh*t load of money out there to be made. Affiliate marketing just in case you don’t know is helping other businesses sell their products in return for a commission.
I’m currently working on some exciting things at my site and I’m breaking it down ultra-simple like, so even your grandma or kids can get some of this money …
Looking forward to this blog and from learning the trix of the trade. If we all unite we can take over this internet world!
I love the positive energy…looking forward to forging some alliances so we can make a much needed imprint on the net. Lets get it.
This is a great site! adding now. Thanks for the tips.
